Schrafft (W.F. & Sons) Corporation is established.

Originally a candy store, it manufactures the first jelly beans in the U.S. this year and promotes sending them to Union soldiers fighting in the Civil War. The company opens a number of tea rooms and restaurants in Boston, beginning in 1912,* and moves to a new manufacturing facility in 1928.*
